We chose HGS builders for an internal renovation project and we are absolutely delighted with the quality of the work and the professionalism of James and his team. James came to see what we were planning and straight away offered advice and shared ideas. He quickly followed up with a detailed quote and proposed schedule of work. Communication was excellent during the run-up to the work beginning, and throughout their time on site. James and his team were exceptionally well-organised and when unexpected issues arose, James never presented us with a problem, instead, he came with potential solutions, all the while keeping our tight budget in mind. The team worked meticulously on all the details, obviously taking personal pride in their work - and the job was completed on schedule. We really appreciate the time and effort James and his team put into delivering our project, which was completed without a single hitch. We also appreciate James’ solution focused approach, his kindness and his patience. During the project, we spent some of the time away from our home in temporary accommodation, and on our return neighbours commented on how considerate, courteous, and tidy the HGS team were. We will definitely work with HGS builders again without hesitation.

James and the team did a brilliant refurb project for us. Nothing was an issue and obliged with no problems to some additions to the original scope of works. Communication was outstanding, the team were always onsite when they said and advised if any changes. Quality of the work was brilliant. James and his team did an attic conversion for us back in 2022. They were professional and the work they completed was to a high standard, and they were strictly honest in all their dealing with us. They were also especially good in helping us resolve issues that arose with architectural plans, and outside of their control. They spotted these issues early and their expertise was invaluable in helping us resolve these issues. Upon completion they were proactive in pushing for completion sign off. Over 2 years after finishing the work HGS builders have made it clear they are still available to support and help should we have and further queries, and have helped with tradespeople for other work around the house. They are not a company that will disappear soon after completion. They have been around for years, and will continue to be many years from now.

I recently had the pleasure of working with James and his HGS team for a bathroom extension, and I couldn't be more satisfied with the results. Before I handed over the project to James, I spoke with at least five builders on-site, but James stood out from the very beginning. He took the time to patiently explain everything in detail, never rushing or dismissing our inputs. His follow-up email and the detailed quote he provided were incredibly impressive and ultimately convinced me to move forward with him. James and his team excel in time management, he estimated that the project would take six weeks, and believe it or not, they completed it right on schedule on Thursday at 5:30 PM of the sixth week, The bathroom was ready for use by Friday evening. What truly impressed me was their meticulous planning each week, allowing them to complete the project without rushing or compromising on quality. Throughout the six weeks, I asked James, his dad, Scott, and Sean countless questions, probably hundreds! They never ignored a single one and answered all my inquiries with great patience. I am thoroughly impressed with the work done by HGS. After the successful completion of the bathroom, I entrusted them with two additional small projects, which they delivered with the same high quality. I can confidently say that you can trust this team to handle your projects with care and professionalism. I will definitely engage them for my future projects.

We hired HGS to do a renovation of a Victorian terrace property. The work included removal of several structural walls, installation of some large windows/sliding doors and some internal stairs, fitting underfloor heating, renovating a bathroom, installing a kitchen and a few bespoke cabinetry items. Firstly, all the work was completed within a week or two of the agreed timescale which was great (as we'd moved out for the works). James (junior) was a great communicator and for the most part kept me abreast of key decisions, and any problems that arose. The rest of his team (including James senior) were all very polite and hardworking. In particular for the structural work, it felt like they were a safe set of hands to be doing the project. The work wasn't without its issues and surprises, but in all cases solutions were found. James also kept an account for any extra work over and above the tender, but also removed items from the tender that for various reasons weren't needed. The snagging list was dealt with expediently and James was on hand during the final building control sign off. Overall we were very pleased with the outcome of the renovation and wouldn't hesitate to recommend HGS.

James and his team from HGS were great to work with. James was always super responsive, and his team were very friendly and polite on site. Definitely recommend HGS if you are looking to do a renovation project.

James and his team completed a single storey extension on our mid terrace house in summer 2024, adding an open plan living/dining/kitchen area, a utility, storage room and a downstairs shower/wc. James helped us to plan the project within our budget (advising us to make a couple of simple changes to the materials we were planning to use) when we were anxious it might not be possible to do at all! He and his team were fantastic at communicating, keeping us up to date on the project and keeping us informed at least weekly. The team miraculously managed to keep to schedule despite heavy rain impacting the build. We were pleased to see the team clean up and sweep each day and they were very respectful of our property while working. James also gave advice to us on a part of the project we were doing ourselves which was really helpful and above and beyond our expectations. We are delighted with the end result and grateful that any teething issues were dealt with swiftly as they arose. Overall we would absolutely recommend HGS builders to anyone planning a home renovation project.
